Quilling Classes December 2013

Happy new year to our blog readers! Oh, can't believe that it's already 7th of Jan! I'm so not ready with 2014. >_<

To begin the new year with, I would like to share some photos from our quilling classes conducted in December last year.

Adult Beginner Class
We first started quilling class in Dec 2012. And this is our 8th class already!

Kids Holiday Fun Quilling Class
It's our second attempt conducting kids quilling class. This time we made quilling easier for these young quillers by rolling corrugated/ board strips. The strips are wider and thus easier to work with for our young learners. (We use this KIT for our kids class)

Poinsettia with Candles

The design is about 3" tall and 2.5" wide.
Use 1/8 inch standard width paper strips

Make:                                                                         

Six 8" Red Marquise for petals                           

Five 8" Green Marquise for leaves                        

Three 2" Yellow tight coils for center                      

One 12" White Teardrop for Big Candle (Pinch deep and tight to produce thin, long candle)              

One 8" White Teardrop for Small Candle            

Two 3" Yellow Shaped Teardrop for Candle light

Referring to the above pattern, arrange and glue the Poinsettia petals together before placing the tight coils in the centre on top of the petals. Glue the Poinsettia and leaves at the lower centre of the card, followed by the candles and the candle light.
Tips: The yellow tight coils for the Poinsettia centre can be substituted with yellow or gold colour pearls or blings to give a different look.

Spreading the love of quilling 2013

In an effort to spread the love of quilling, we had took part in two exciting events this December!

The first one is a free quilling workshop for children, jointly organised by PnQ and Seedling Learning Centre, on the 1st of Dec. Altogether there were 20 plus children participants. Initially the parents were there to assist heir younger children, but ended up they themselves also had fun quilling. We each made a poinsettia card and a simple Christmas tree tag.

The second event is a quillers-meet-up which was held on the 7th. We had fun quilling and meeting other quillers. We also had a Christmas card exchange session. Since everyone enjoyed it, so we probably will meet quarterly in future.

SBC Biodiversity Day

We were invited to take part in Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) Biodiversity Day on 18th and 19th last month in which we were given a booth for exhibition. There was also a make-and-take session using recycled strips for the public to participate and experience the fun of quilling. And now let the photos do the talking.

Thanks again to SBC for giving us a chance to be part of the wonderful event and special credits go to Eunice, Gilbert, Lee Sze, Aisha and SBC staffs at the origami/quilling booth. And thanks to all who dropped by at our booth! Love you all!

I can quill a snowflake!

One of our customers who bought a slotted tool and quilling paper from us at the bazaar showed me a photo few days after the bazaar:

"It's fun!" she told me. And I must admit that for a beginner, she's really good!

Demo at Popular Tun Jugah

We did a demo and sharing session at Popular Tun Jugah yesterday. We started with a presentation entitled 'Quilling: ancient craft, modern art' and followed by demo on how to quill. We thanked all who turned up to support us. We also thanked Popular Tun Jugah for the invitation to share our love for quilling.
